Jaunty Jackalope Ubuntu 9.04 - the next version of Ubuntu
The Jaunty Jackalope(Ubuntu 9.04) will be the next release of the desktop friendly and most downloaded Linux distro - Ubuntu. Release of Ubuntu 9.04, will bring with it the latest features for the next version. Ubuntu has a release cycle of 6 months and thus a new version will be released every six months. The naming system is a bit tricky. Each sucessive version will have a first and last name both starting with same letter in the alphbetical order from version to version. For example the previous version of Ubuntu was named Hardy Heron and Interpid Ibex - the H and I. Now its time for a 'J' so it is Jaunty Jackalope. And the second name will always be the name of an Animal.
Ubuntu 9.04 - Features Review
The ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope will come with the updated set of packages. The complete and updated list of changs in packages can be found in the jaunty changes mailling list. Version of X.Org server will be updated to 1.6. But propritery video drivers will take time to catch up with.
ubuntu 9.04 will also feature a completely new style for notifications and preferences associated with it, which Canonical claims, will be more user friendly. Jaunty includes the latest Linux kernel 2.6.28 and support for ext4 fiesystem. But by default, it will include the ext3 and users will be given a preference to choose form.
Others of the anticipated features are a faster bootup and blending of web with the Operating system. Something new called 'weblication' - the web integrated application is also hyped.

BTW, Ubuntu 9.04 has some serious drawbacks that one should know about before upgrading to it. Read this:http://tech.shantanugoel.com/2009/05/04/ubuntu-904
i really like Ubuntu 9.04.it has a few bugs but its features outweigh them
Very buggy on my ThinkPad T61. CPU core temp at 90 C before installing tpfan-admin. Problems with flash videos in Mozilla, tried several work arounds. Issue with terminal server view as well. Overall, has a LOT of trouble with media, from storage management to use. Stay with 8.10!
