ngage The much awaited gaming platform from Nokia works only on a few handsets

NGage is to mobile gaming what Xbox or Play Station is for console gaming. One can say that it is an arcade style gaming system for select Nokia handsets. The n- Gage application can be downloaded and one can create profiles, add friends, download games and even interact with other players on it. Gamers are also allowed to keeptrack of their performance through a point table where points can be stored as nGage points, solo points, multiplayer points and arena points. One can also leave messages through it. Needless to say, the platform allows over-the-air multiplayer gaming too.

The app can be downloaded from www.ngage.com but there is a catch: at present it only works on Nokia N81, N81 8GB, N 82, N95 andN95 8GB. So if you don’t have any of these phones, buy one or wait till it becomes compatible for other phones too. This is expected to happen some time soon as the website claims that the next set of handsets would be Nokia N73, N93 and N93i.

download this app then let us tell you that it is a heavy file of 7.09 MB. Once installed you need to register and you are all set to go! There are some interesting and popular games available in the ‘nGage showroom’. These include Asphalt 3: Street Rules, FIFA 08, Ths Sims 2: Pets to name a few. These games can also be selected through the usual categories. Graphically the games look much more appealing than the usual mobile games. However, the funny thing is that the trial version of a few games lasted only for 30 seconds! Since the platform was launched after a long wait, we are sure that the hard core gamers are loving it.

Finally, we can say that it is a great initiative by Nokia and with subscribers getting more and more tech savvy, nGage will definitely give the required boost to mobile gaming and an excellent experience to the hard core mobile gamers. But the issue still remains the same. Of the whole lot, only six selected models are compatable with nGage platform as of now. And this makes it limited to a very few users.
