Offline incarnation of Gmail
People who have been constantly using Gmail, is also familiar with its newly released offline version, which Google will roll out gradually to its users. OfCourse, the main difference between online and offline versions are that you can not see new messages and incoming e-mails will be queued up until connection is established.
Gmail offline uses Google Gears, which allows, among other things, browsers store data and cookies directly on computer in its local cache. You will need Google chrome or any other Google Gears compatible browser for offline Gmail to work. However you still may have to install Gears.

Remember that google gears can access information from your computer and that it is not completely loaded from web.
